Working in the financial industry, that means a lot of production work, and a lot of versions – which I love. There's something satisfying about organizing and controlling multiple components, and making sure everything is correct before collecting for output and sending off to the print vendor. This particular client sends out direct marketing offers – letter/form, brochure, email, and social media post – five times a year to three different age groups. These components had been templatized long before I started this role, so I was coming into something already pre-designed, but the client had asked for a light refresh – to the brochure, specifically – to give it a slightly more contemporary feel. There were multiple iterations of the Johnson box on the letter, but they wanted to keep the rounded corners – for the time being: a rebrand was just around the corner...

When tasked with refreshing the State Bar of Texas's long-running programs (Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Life Insurance, etc.), I came up with a design that made it look like the letter sender had taken a look at the printed documents and there were certain key features they wanted to emphasize, done by using the handwriting font and underlines. The concept was loved by everyone and was the leading contender, until the very last moment when the client changed their mind and went with a different concept. Oh well.

This client, the New Jersey Education Association, was ramping up for Open Enrollment at the end of 2022, and requested that the design for their letter be updated. The other components – outer envelope, postcards, and social media – were also lightly refreshed to match the updated design of the letter.

NJEA also requested a logo to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their partnership with Educators Insurance Services and Prudential. They sent over an example of what they were thinking, which I dutifully designed, but I also sent over two additional options just in case. As I expected, they went with the one closest to the example, but I'm also pretty happy with the other two options.
